PFAS-FREE

Oct 03, 2023

WHAT IS PFAS?

There are more than 4,700 chemicals in the synthetic chemical group known as poly and perfluoroalkyl (PFAS).
PFAS, used in outerwear, non-stick pans, heat, stain and water resistant products, pose a great threat to both humans and the environment.
These chemicals, which break down very slowly, have the power to survive in the environment for thousands of years. For this reason, the chemical group called PFAS is known as the 'infinite chemical'.
ABOUT THE PFAS PAPER PIPETTE INVESTIGATION
Paper straws were examined in the research published in the scientific journal Food Additives & Contaminants.

In a study conducted in Belgium, scientists who analyzed 39 different brands reported that they found a group of synthetic chemicals known as poly and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in 90 percent of the straws.

Poly and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are long-lasting and have the potential to harm human health over time, were detected in most of the paper and bamboo straws tested within the scope of the research.

The study analyzed straws made of various materials purchased from stores and fast-food restaurants and found that 18 out of 20 paper straw brands contained PFAS, while plastic and glass versions were detected at a lower frequency.
